After a ho-hum 1 game roll-off where Team Hooven simply pounded Baddabing into submission, down to the wire is what could best describe both conference playoff matches. In the American Conference, the Dirtballs struck first with a 5 pin win over Team Hooven. An RJ 159 carried the load. Kelly Neill said, enough of that and proceeded to toss a 151 leading Hooven to a 23-pin win in Game 2. Game 3 saw the Hooveners take a large lead only to have that cut down by a Steve Reilly 5-bagger. Kelly Neill said, enough of that and nailed 4 in a row of her own to save the Hooven day. Team Hooven went on to take Game 3 by 40 and will bowl for the whole enchilada next week. On a side note, should Team Hooven take it all next week, not 1 but 2 of their bowlers will be the first ever to repeat as champs Kelly Neill and Mike Hagan. Talk about winners?
The National Conference title match was a real nail biter. Game 1 saw Team Hagan best the Split Fillers by 68 on Rusty Haywoods 133 and Pete Hagans 174. Game 2 was a little different as Curt Hensman (183) and anchor Dave Herbert (204) turned the tables for a 12-pin win. Game 3 was nip and tuck most of the way. Going into the 9th frame, Pete was on a strike, Dave was on a double. Team Hagan was up by 5. Pete nailed the next 3 in a row and an 8 on the count. Dave stepped up and matched Pete with his own 3 in a row and an 8 on the count. The Split Fillers win the conference title by 5.
Up next; Team Hooven vs. Split Fillers for the league title. The Dirtballs will face Team Hagan to decide 3rd place.
In tournament bowling, Snowman Whichs Nicole Hensman, Val Passanante, and Mike Snowman bowled lights out (1974 gross pins w/ handicap) to garner top money prize of $389.00. Baddabing, after sleepwalking through the 1-game roll-off, woke up BIG-TIME to close within 5 pins (1969) of the top team to take 2nd place prize money of $181.00.
Congrats to all the winners thus far. Looking forward to another exciting week of bowling.
