I've got a few Connexions to unload since I'm an EDDIE now. Two ST3's, a used 30 oz. and a 26 oz. still in the wrapper. Also a 30 oz. ST10 slightly used. You've seen me swing so you know there's no dents. Make an offer.

The 2008 Pyrotech is comprised of a new alloy, and a new endcap. This makes the sweetspot tighter than the three previous models. Thus, there is a break-in period. This will vary
with each bat as they are a mfg product. Also, the user will determine the # of hits that it takes. Rotating the bat after each hit; and, hitting along the whole barrel length will distribute break-in evenly. This will prolong bat life. Also, a good idea to not use your game bat as a practice bat; or in colder weather. Yes '0', I split an infinitive in the previous sentence. |

I am not an expert in metal either but I will offer the explaination I was given...
The way it was described to me from the people at Anderson is the break in period has more to do with the end cap than the metal itself. The alloy will only flex to certain point before breaking or denting. Anderson has created an end cap out of a material that will allow an increased area of barrel flex. The material used in the end cap has a break in period to increase the flex of the end cap therefore increasing the area flexing on the barrel. When broken in properly as zonk described (covering all areas of the bat top to bottom and all sides) will increase the sweet spot on the bat. |

Zero, your not raining and I have no parade. Hell, I can hardly hit my way out of a paper sack. All I know is the second time I took the Pyrotech out I hit the balls further, that's all end of story.

Well ok, here it goes..
In every material there are "defects", voids, imperfections in its atomic matrix. There are several ways to refine the materials into better, stronger materials. Most of us have heard of cryo treating bats, that was one way to treat the metal to get it to perform better. Most of these ways include heat and pressure, annealing, quenching, tempering...the break in period we are talking about is usually called cold forming, strengthening a material without heat. Every material inherently has certain levels of plastic and elastic deformation. As long as you keep forces applied to the material in the elastic range, the material will bounce back, if too much is exerted it goes into the plastic range, changing the atomic structure of the material (denting). Cold forming (essentially pounding the crap out of it... as evenly as possible gives the best results, the pounding can potentially realign the voids into a tighter, stronger atomic matrix) any material will strengthen it to a point. The materials properties (the level of forces of plastic vs. eleastic deformation) will determine how much it can take before the curve changes from a possitive effect to a negative effect. Hope that helps... |

Well, if you're talking about cold FORGING, then I don't think that is quite happening. I don't think anyone, not even Yok or Jarred will be able to create the sort of pressure required.

Re: Bat Lists / Legal & Illegal

no forging....forming (although they seem to be being used interchangeably in some text)...it is the idea behind the whole ASA bat rolling testing (to break bats in - mostly composites) as well.
Here is a rough idea obviously this has nothing to do with bats but it is the same idea on a smaller scale. Cold Forming |

Re: Bat Lists / Legal & Illegal

I don't know, maybe, but I'd still like to see an objective test proving it.
Anyway, change of subtopic, what's the ruling on the Demarini Raw Steel for this year? No composite handle (not that that matters at all since the flex is in the joint, not the handle) but the handle and barrel are different materials? |

Re: Bat Lists / Legal & Illegal

Yes, illegal for reason of handle and barrel made of different materials, aluminum and steel respectively.

Hey BatDog - Did you allow Ultra II's for the mens league yet? Maybe then some people could hit .500 and stop complaining about the bats
