When the dust settles here I will redo this topic with a repost of the lone bat list. Until then, let's iron out all the wrinkles that might be.

Worth VT Supercell in the "Eddie" column should be in the "Banned" column because (I believe) it uses Variable wall Technology, which is one of basic rules for SBA.

The Worth VT Supercell is not on the ASA banned list. I do believe that bat has always been SBA legal for eddies.

There are two new Easton Connexion's I do not see on any list. They are the ST250B CXN Fastpitch and ST260 Quantum. Both bats are ASA approved but they are aluminum barrels with composite handles.

Re: Bat Lists / Legal & Illegal

There are a lot of FP bats that we did not list. This is due to the fact that most people do not use these bats; except for the Andersons & Demarinis. There are also other obscure bats
that are eligible to be listed that would make the list infinite. If anyone has a bat that they specifically want to purchase/use that is NOT on the list, let us know; and, we will make a decision of its legality. |

One significant bat missing from the ASA banned list is the
Miken Ultra 2 Legacy. It is gray; and, is a recreation of the original U2 with s $ 300 price and a warranty. ASA's list of banned bats is retroactive to 1/7/08. ASA will update by spring or sooner. |

Worth VT: The old rule was that the barrel wall had to be the same thickness. This was an SBA rule that superceded the ASA rules. If that rule has been eliminated, then it's okay.
The two Easton ConneXions that were just mentioned would only allowed for females/seniors because of the composite handles. |

Re: Bat Lists / Legal & Illegal

Thanks zonk. I listed these specific bats because I currently swing a ST3B fastpitch because I like the lighter weight. I was considering picking up one of these new models but was waiting for the 08 list to come out. I figured since it was half and half technology it would not qualify but you never know.

Ron: The 1/2 & 1/2 makes it only good for women and 65+ men. If itis all aluminum then the 1st batch male eddies are GTG. Have to be careful as ASA banned some FP bats before.

Re: Bat Lists / Legal & Illegal

The Worth Supercell VT has always been an ASA approved bat. The term variable wall is an offshoot of the term double
wall. Double was copyrighted by Ray Demarini. Ray was a softball nut who made bats in his garage in the late 1980s. He was displeased with the bat mfg. bats; so, he decided to make his own. It progressed to the 1996 doublewall distance that revolutionized the bat mfg. process. So proficient was this bat, that people were paying $ 300.00 for this bat. Back then, this was unchartered territory for expending that kind of cash. The bat was not durable; and, coupled with the 525-600 compression balls, the DWD became a soda can after ~ 200 hits. In 1997-98 this bat became more durable without a severe loss in performance. However, Easton, Worth, etc, were caught off guard. They tried some high end bats too. Worth came out with the EST line at ~ $ 250.00. Also, they knew some players would not spend this much. Thus, Worth created a lower class of bat, the supercell VT. This bat retailed for $140.00. It came in charming colors= orange, bright blue, & yellow. The problem with this bat was it was/is a log. It did not perform even with the high compression balls. I owned the orange one; and, sold it after a couple of months. In never opened up. Variable wall technology is achieved by alternating thick and thin sections spanning down the length of the bat.The result is that at least one thin section will make contact. This today is known as layering which is the crux of making a multi-walled or doublewall bat. The VT was durable because of its wall thickness. Even Worth's cryogenic process did not help this bat. It has a 12" barrel; and, is available in 26,27,28,29, and 30 ounces. If I saw an opponent using this bat, I would be happy. Especially, with the 44/375 balls being used in SBA. |

Re: Bat Lists / Legal & Illegal

So if the VT's were logs back in the day why don't we consider some of the current day logs for eddie use...below 65 eddies. Like the Freak 98, green catty, 08 extended, 08 stealth, etc. I know once a composite bat breaks in it can be hotter than anything out there. I have Freak 98 that I would be lucky to hit out of the infield (not broken in) and have seen other Freak 98's that are team bats that are well broken in that could hit out of the quarry field at will like an Ultra2. So that being said and not to discount the ability of the male eddies under 65...why dont we allow them to use these bats as well? Obviously I am not an eddie and cannot used said bats. But why cut off the eddies who are not seniors from using said bats and also cutoff seniors from using senior bats. Since I play the outfield I would like to not move in when an eddie comes up to the plate. And mind you it does not happen often since I have a lot of respect for the eddies in this league. I have been burned enough out there to know that the eddie marker sometimes means nothing. But I think if the eddies could use the current technology along with the seniors using technology that was designed for them it would be an even playing field on offense accross the league. You should not be able to throw an eddie out at first, or even second, from the outfield. Not that I would try it but some people do with sucess. I think applying the ASA rule for the male 65+ and female eddies made for some great offense in the co-ed league last season. I guess the point I am trying to make is build off of that and expand with the new rules in place for co-ed and we may see a more competitive playing field over all. I know I tried to say a lot in a short amount of time and may not have been fully clear but does anyone else think this is fair?

There was some confusion (more on my part than Tom or Frank) on the legality of different models of Whiplash and Prodigy. Both bat gurus have since cleared that up for us. The list has been amended accordingly.

Re: Bat Lists / Legal & Illegal

The single bat list is a work in progress. It will take some tweaking. Every SBA legal bat that was ever made is NOT listed. I don't have enough server space and you don't have enough bandwidth. The point is; if you have a question about a bat that is not on the list, you can post in this forum or email either, or both, Tom or Frank.

Re: Bat Lists / Legal & Illegal

When it comes to core bats, it pretty much personal preference as there's only so much you can do with a single wall of aluminum alloy. Anything that's "hot" will not be durable, especially for Mr. Bat Shatterer.
As long as it doesn't say "Hammer" or "Black Magic" on it, or was bought at Wal-Mart or Target, you should be fine. |

Tom, after destroying a bat or two myself, I tried the new Pyrotech. Gotta say, pretty good bat, after break in 100-150 balls, it has almost as much pop as the Ultamate Weapon, but it is WAY more durrable.

Re: Bat Lists / Legal & Illegal

Sorry to rain on your parade, but singlewall bats do not have a break in period. Singlewalls are as hot as they will ever be right out of the wrapper. Doublewalls have a break in period during which the two walls loosen up. As do composites which stretch the fibers. The only thing that can happen to a singlewall to change it's performance is for it to start denting, and then it's illegal.

Re: Bat Lists / Legal & Illegal

Here is a quote from the rep at Anderson I purchased my Pyrotech from about whether or not there is a break in period for a single-wall.
There will be a short period of time where the aluminum will increase in mechanical properties, thus increasing performance, feel, sweet spot, etc... but this period of time is SHORT. After 50 swings it's as good as it's going to get! The true break in period is for YOU to get used to the bat. |
