A drive for unwanted or no longer needed softball equipment is being put together on behalf of a league member overseas. Andy will be donating any and all unclaimed gloves from the lost and found. I will donate a case of softballs. If you have anything in the way of softball equipment that you have no further use of, please drop it off at the Quarry snack bar. These items will be collected and then shipped to our boys/girls overseas.

As large as our league has become, it's a considerable task compiling the resulting data. A certain amount of teamwork is needed to bring it all together, beginning with the scorekeepers in the trenches. A few pointers:
1. Keep scoresheets dry and wrinkle free. Avoid folding. It makes for trouble free scaning.
2. Write neatly. People are funny about having their names spelled correctly.
3. Put some thought into choosing what you're going to write with. Black ink is...

As you may have seen on the news, Dave Sale, one of the players from the Young Gunz team, lost his life at Citizens Bank Park on Saturday July 25th. Dave was involved in a fight where multiple guys attcked him at once. Dave tried to defend himself but was unable to stop them. DO NOT put nick-names in the line-up. Use the players REAL names. We don't know all the nick names of everyone at Softball America, so if you use a nick name it could be mistaken for a different player.

We go through this every year. It did take longer this year though.

Game Timekeeping

Effective immediately, the game umpire (home plate umpire in playoffs) is to be in charge of making the official call to end a game due to time. The scorekeeper will continue to be the timekeeper of the game and shall keep the umpire abreast of the time situation; however, the umpire will now be the one to make the official decision as to whether the game continues or is called due to time. Quarry Ball Field Trash

Andy asked me to ask all Quarry ball players to kindly place any trash in one of the trash receptacles before leaving the field. It's a little difficult for him to do it at the end of the evening and the very last thing we need is for the property owner to drive by the next morning and see the place looking like a landfill. I am placing the 1-pitch jacket order this week. A league member had asked me if I could order a few infant tee shirts for his boy. I will now be honoring that request. Ball Field Batter's Boxes

The batter's boxes at the Quarry ball field were filled with a polymer enhanced clay last Tuesday. The clay itself is not very noticable as it sits just below the surface of the infield mix. In spite of the wet conditions, it has held up very nicely. With the help of league member Craig Henderson, Cedar Hill was done this past Saturday. Once again, it has held up very well. Nobody wants to get the games played more than I do. Running a close second are the game umpires.

In the case of the Sunday Morning league, groundskeepers are out very early to check on the ball fields and do whatever needs to be done to make them playable. They report to me by 7:45 am.
