Robin Ford (Outcasts, Wednesday Coed) was found in violation of the courtesy runner rule on 04/09/08. By doing so, Robin has forfeited her right to use a courtesy runner in her next Wednesday Coed game.

There are 2 very distinct instances with regard to eddie requirements where a batting out is to be taken by a team. The first is when a team fails to meet eddie requirements. In this instance, a team is to take a batting out for each infraction. In other words, if the team is short an eddie, the team will take a batting out each time the missing eddie's at-bat comes up. NOTE: Not more than 2 batting outs shall be taken for any one line-up.

The second instance is when a team is found to...

Career statistics are kept on record for every player that has ever stepped up to the plate in Softball America. Whether an individual has 1 at-bat or 10 thousand and 1 at-bats, an account of that player is maintained in the ‘all players’ file. What has changed over the past few years and will continue to change for the next few years is the at-bat requirement for career leaders.

Calling time while a game is in progress is somewhat of a misnomer. A player, coach, or manager cannot call time, they can only request that they be granted time. The only person in the game that can call time is the umpire. The next time you holler out, ‘time’, remember you are only asking for time. You will get time only when it is granted to you by the umpire. The umpire can/will grant time if, and only if, in his/her judgment play has ceased. Until such time, the ball is live and game...

Often times a team’s win/loss record will contain 1 or maybe even 2 ties. This creates some standings confusion in that most people don’t know how to compare team records that contain ties to team records that do not contain ties.

The easiest way to look at a situation like this is to give each win, loss, and tie a certain value. To keep things simple, let’s use the standard of one point for a win and ½ a point for a loss.

A tie is both ½ a win and ½ a loss. Half of a win...
